Wives of Brigham Young by whom he did not have children
Included in this list are women Brigham Young held out to be wives, in the sense that he cared for them in a temporal way as a husband would. He provided them with a home, listed them in his will, and provided for their children by earlier marriages, One supposes that all or most of these were not connubial marriages. The list does not include the names of some thirty women who were "sealed" to Brigham Young "for eternity only," with no intension that he would share earthly life with them or their children, if any, by earlier marriages. The names below are given in the order of marriage or sealing.*
Augusta Adams (Cobb) 1802 - 1886 (1842)
Susannah Snively 1815–1892 (1844)
Eliza R. Snow (Smith) 1804–1887 (1844)
Martha Bowker 1822–1890 (1846)
Namah K .J. Carter (Twiss) 1821–1909 (1846)
Mary Jane Bigelow 1822–1868 (1847) Divorced 1851
Harriet Amelia Folsom 1838–1910 (1863)
Anna Eliza Webb 1844–? (1868) Divorced 1876
* Two plural wives of Joseph Smith to whom Young was sealed during the winter of 1845–46 died shortly thereafter; they might have been on this list if they had lived longer. They were Olive Grey Frost, 1816–1845, and Maria Lawrence, 1823-1847
